Site-Seeing--Driving Around Town

J was able to come home early from work so we decided to go check out the city and immerse ourselves in the culture. This was the official day of our culture shock! The architecture is absolutely amazing! We passed a few "palaces" and the English School For Girls. We drove through what would be the "Buckhead" of Kuwait City. We ate lunch at the Pizza Hut which was on the waterfront. The restaurant was fancier than our Pizza Huts in the U.S., and the menu was much more extensive. I felt very uncomfortable eating lunch because we were the only Americans in there and it felt like everyone was staring. The men smiled a lot while the women seemed to glare. One little girl rested her face in her hands on the table and looked at me for about five minutes. I smiled at her a few times, but she never smiled back. I wonder what they think... Hmmmm... The pizza was very good. There was a huge boat that was turned into a restaurant. We drove into that area to get a picture of it. Guards were at the entrance to inspect our vehicle for car bombs...We had to lift the hood and everything! We stopped at a park along the waterfront to look at the skyline along the shore. The Kuwait Towers could be seen in the skyline.
